How to use shoppable Instagram Stories

What is Shoppable Instagram?

If you’re an avid Instagram scroller you would've already seen shoppable Instagram posts from the likes of River Island. Shoppable posts have taken Instagram to the next level, now its easier than ever for users to see a product they like and purchase it within a few steps.

How do I Set up Shoppable Instagram images?

However, there was a flaw, with over 400 million users a day using the Instagram stories feature, there was no easy way to tag products via the stories feature - which is where the new update comes into play. When adding an image/video to your story you are now easily able to tag a physical product using a sticker directly onto the post. This new feature now allows smaller businesses to directly push people to their products directly through Instagram, there is now no need to be verified or have over 10,000 followers.

To take advantage of this new feature there are a few eligibility requirements needed. You must have an Instagram Business Account (you can set up one easily here), you need the latest Instagram (so check your app is up-to-date), and your business profile must be connected to a Facebook catalogue (find out how to do this here).

How to sell on Instagram or add products on Instagram shopping?

Once you have all of the above you are ready to begin sticking your products onto your Instagram stories. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open up the Instagram stories app and take a photo or video
  2. Select the stickers option, and select the ‘products’ sticker
  3. From here you will be able to select a product from your catalogue
  4. Once selected you can change the colour of the sticker, change the size or move it wherever you would like on the image/video
  5. You're ready to go, simply add it to your story.

Can I use Instagram to promote my small business?

Yes, you do not need to be verified or have over 10,000 followers compared to other features. This new feature works really well for brands showing off their new collections via their stories. Don’t forget you can take advantage of the highlighted stories on your Instagram business page to showcase certain products.
