GET SHORTY

This summer ‘.co.uk’ is getting shortened to ‘.uk’ (if you want it)

Over 10 million existing .co.uk customers will be offered the shorter equivalent of their current address, with five years to decide whether they want to use it in addition to, or instead of the domain they already own. The five-year free reservation period should give you plenty of thinking time, just don’t forget about it. :)

What you need to know:
•    The launch date is 8.00am on 10 June 2014
•    The reservation period for existing customers who already have a .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk or plc.uk runs until 7.59am on 10 June 2019.
•    In a case where one company owns .co.uk and a different company owns .org.uk, the company with the .co.uk domain name will get first refusal.

Reservation information:
•    Totally unique ‘.uk’ domain names where there are no existing rights or .co.uk / .org.uk equivalent, can be registered before 8.00am on 10 June 2014 and will get full rights to the new .uk domain.
•    After launch on 10 June 2014, any new registrations within the .uk family would no longer get automatic rights to register the new .uk domain, so .uk domains of an equivalent address would be available for anyone to register.
•    You can use the dotuklaunch rights look up tool to find out who has first rights.
•    You can register your new .uk domain with your chosen registrar at the launch on 10 June 2014.

More information:
•    All rights to new .uk domains will no longer exist if an existing domain is not renewed.
•    Domains must be continuously registered to retain the rights to the new .uk. If a .co.uk with rights is not renewed between now and 10 June 2014, then it can regain rights to the .uk domain by re-registering before 10 June 2014.
If you need any help with registering new domains or making sure you get the .uk domains you want? Give us a shout.
