How do I set up a business profile on Facebook?

Apparently, there are 60 million active business pages in the world - are you one of them? We’ve found more and more people are using social media to contact a brand. Why? Because its free, quick and easy!

People are coming to expect they can reach a brand this way, so you really should make sure they can. Facebook is the most obvious social media platform to use but can be a little confusing to set up, so we’ve put together a handy guide to get you going.

How to set up a business profile on Facebook?

When you set up a company page it has to be created off a personal account. Don’t worry, your personal account won't overlap with the business profile to the outside world. This is how you start setting up a Facebook business page:

1. Click ‘create’
Once on your personal profile click ‘create’ in the navigation bar at the top

2. Business category
Are you a ‘Business or Brand’ or a ‘Community or Public Figure’? Well, if you’re reading this, you’re probably looking to create a ‘Business or Brand’.

3. Company information
For the ‘page name’ add your brand's name and select a category that best suits the businesses.

4. Take a pic
Your profile picture should be 360 x 360 pixels and be of your logo. Your banner image (the long one at the top) should be 960 x 360 pixels. Both images should be good quality.

5. About
Complete as much of the ‘about’ section as possible. You’ll be able to come back and complete any empty fields later. Ensure you add your contact details, including phone number and website, as well as opening times, locations and ‘tell people about your businesses’.

6. Finishing touches
You’ve finished the basic setup for a business page on Facebook, but it would be worth clicking through the ‘page tips’ to add a ‘short description’ and more.

How do I access my Facebook Business page?

Once you’re all set, you might want to know where to find your business page. Log in to your personal Facebook account using your existing details and click the down arrow in the right corner. You will see your business page there.

How do I monitor the performance of my Facebook posts?

To grow the number of people who ‘like’ your Facebook business page, we’d recommend running some paid ads. For more information on how to start up a Facebook Campaign or if you want us to do it for you, get in touch.

You can monitor all your posts by clicking on ‘insights’ at the top of the business page.

Top tip

If you’re wanting to post regularly, you can schedule a range of posts all at once. In the ‘create post’ box, start to type your post, adding relevant images and URLs. You will see ‘share now’. Click the down arrow and click schedule.

If you’re wanting to schedule posts on a range of platforms, you might want to use Hootsuite. Discover how to use it in our social media guide. Download for free here.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Hope everyone’s OK out there. As a digital agency, we’re lucky that the virus hasn’t affected us too much. To protect our staff, everyone is working remotely, and all project work is carrying on as normal. It’s possible there could be some delays here and there though, particularly if team members fall ill. We’ll keep you posted. All we ask is that you email rather than call if possible, as we have fewer people on the phones at the moment.

Stay safe, and see you soon :)
