But what is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is when a web publisher promotes another (typically e-commerce) company’s products or services. When someone makes a purchase because of that referral, the publisher is compensated with a commission. This commission is typically a percentage of the purchase price or an agreed set amount.

This is usually done by placing a company’s referral link on the publisher's website which will have a unique tracking code.

Some publishers that work with advertisers include shopping sites such as Lyst, Shopstyle and PriceRunner as well as Cashback sites like TopCashback and Quidco. Other publishers also include loyalty schemes such as Nectar and UNiDAYS alongside voucher code sites like MyVoucherCodes, hotukdeals and Groupon. Advertisers can also work with various bloggers and new outlets for mentions and reviews, this could include sites such as MoneySavingExpert, The Telegraph and Mumsnet for example.
