Splosh

A UX review and web support for a company cutting plastic waste

Splosh are pioneers in the world of refillable household goods. Founded with a goal to reduce plastic waste whilst delivering exceptional cleaning performance, the company enables their customers to clean their homes whilst contributing to a cleaner planet. Splosh benefit from a loyal customer base, so maintaining and building upon that customer list is critical.

Having been let down by their previous Shopify agency, Splosh came to us in need of support with the user experience of their website, and ongoing technical support.

The brief

Splosh migrated from Magento to Shopify about nine months before they came to us. The process hadn't been straightforward, with a lot of their previous systems and workflows disrupted by the migration, and the resulting website needing a boost in terms of aesthetics and UX.

Their subscriptions platform was causing some issues both for customers and the admin team and their previously functional mobile apps had stopped working. On-site branding was muddled, and a number of issues were lowering conversion rate and causing customers to look elsewhere for their cleaning products.

Having had issues using overseas freelance support in the past, Splosh were keen to work with a UK-based Shopify agency to build a long-term working relationship to really drive the business forward.

Our strategy

Our work started with a Discovery UX Review which uncovered a wealth of issues with the current website. The findings of that review were presented to the client and a roadmap of UX issues to be tackled was established. Our project team then met with Splosh on-site and spoke to a variety of client staff members to ensure we had a thorough understanding of all the current pain points with the website, both front-end and back-end.

Having established the full to-do list, we prioritised the jobs to be done and started to work through them methodically, with priority quick-wins tackled first.

Rather than re-invent the wheel and rebuild the Shopify theme from scratch, we elected to work with the existing theme, making incremental changes to address the findings of the UX Review. This would result in a less-jarring transition for the highly important base of existing customers.

Whilst tackling the agreed to-do list, the Clear team has provided on-going ad-hoc Shopify support to the Splosh customer-service team. This has ensured that the business is able to continue running efficiently while website improvements are made.

The results

Clear have delivered a re-worked Shopify theme for Splosh that builds on what was already there, but offers greater refinement, brand consistency and support for conversions. The proof has been in the pudding - in the immediate aftermath of our website improvements going live, Splosh have seen:

  • 70% increase in number of 'add to basket' events
  • 60% increase in conversions
  • 35% increase in revenue

We will continue to monitor conversion rates over the coming months to identify any opportunities for further gains. The client is also looking to start working with Clear's Digital Marketing team to start driving more traffic to the website through paid ad campaigns to supplement their existing customer base.

The Clear team has also re-established Splosh's app in the Apple App Store to enable a smooth mobile ordering process for customers on the move.
