Electric Classic Cars are a Newtown-based business specialising in the conversion of classic cars to electric power. With a portfolio of hundreds of conversions, they are industry pioneers with a wealth of knowledge and intellectual property.
As well as the core business of bespoke customer car conversions, they also have a strong following on social media thanks to a television series and popular YouTube channel.
The brief
Before 2024, Electric Classic Cars were relying on an old Magento 1 website, which had become stagnant and excessive for the client's requirements. Clear were approached by Electric Classic Cars with a view to designing and building a new website that would allow for three phases of development:
- Sale of merchandise to casual website visitors and social media followers.
- Sale of select EV component parts to the trade and DIY customers.
- Sale of electric conversion 'kits' to authorised and suitably qualified conversion partners.
Phase 1 of the website would require an integration with one or more print-on-demand partners to produce and fufil the company's merchandise orders. Phases 2 and 3 would see orders fulfilled in-house by the client, so the website platform would need to be easy to manage in terms of updating conversion-related static website content, as well as the management and processing of customer orders.
Our strategy
While Magento could certainly have handled Electric Classic Cars' website requirements, their history with the platform and a desire to do things differently this time led to the scoping of a Shopify website.
The Clear team developed a customised theme for the client that would allow for the showcasing of image and video content relating to historic conversions. The styling of that theme would echo the client's strong brand colours, helping to reinforce the identity being portrayed on YouTube.
The client established a partnership with a print-on-demand company to handle the production and fulfilment of their merchandise items. Clear ensured that the product data from that partner was properly integrated into the Shopify store, and all transactional processes and messaging was properly communicated.
The results
Immediately following the launch of the new Shopify website, Electric Classic Cars saw their visitors' average engagement time increase by 50%, with a 100% increase in views over comparable time periods. Crucially, they have seen a 170% increase in the number of contact form submissions, despite the new site offering improved on-site messaging to better quality incoming leads. The company's merchandise products are now linked to the Electric Classic Cars Youtube channel, offering video viewers the opportunity to view and purchase merchandise easily via Shopify.
Future phases of the project will see the sale of component parts and conversion kits, which should further strengthen and expand Electric Classic Cars' online offering.
