Faith Guitars is an acclaimed British guitar brand, renowned for producing handmade acoustic instruments that prioritise tonal character and craftsmanship. Founded in 2002 by world-renowned luthiers and the team at Barnes & Mullins, the brand has grown into a global name. They serve a diverse community ranging from bedroom enthusiasts to professional touring musicians, all of whom seek the specific “Faith” sound and aesthetic.

The Brief
Faith Guitars approached Clear with a digital presence that no longer reflected the premium quality and artistry of their handmade acoustic instruments. Their existing website, built on a legacy Joomla system, posed significant challenges for internal management and user experience.
Key Challenges:
- Outdated Technology: The Joomla backend was clunky, making content updates a chore for the internal team and hindering agility.
- Fragmented User Experience: The site was not mobile-responsive, leading to poor user experience, and it failed to adequately cater to different global markets with varying commercial needs.
Lack of Brand Reflection: The UI was dated and did not capture the premium nature, artistry, and craftsmanship of Faith Guitars, falling behind competitor websites. - UX Friction: Customers found it difficult to compare the technical specifications (tonewoods, body shapes, etc.) of different models, impacting their purchasing journey.
- Strategic Shift: Barnes & Mullins, Faith Guitars’ parent company, was transitioning to transactional B2C websites in select territories, with a plan to roll out similar e-commerce capabilities across six other brands, starting with Faith Guitars. This required a scalable and conversion-focused platform.
Objective
Migrate the entire digital ecosystem to Shopify, adopting approved Magento designs (from an in-progress project) to create a “content-first, commerce-ready” website that supports global B2C ambitions while providing a foundation for future brand expansion.
The Approach
Shopify Build
We replatformed Faith Guitars to Shopify, building a robust and scalable solution designed to meet their immediate transactional needs and future multi-brand rollout plans across Barnes & Mullins.
UX Design
The new design focused on a “premium-minimalist” UI, allowing the natural beauty and craftsmanship of Faith Guitars to shine through. This approach was critical for reflecting the brand’s quality online and enhancing user engagement.
- Refined typography and high-resolution, professional photography were meticulously used to elevate the visual experience and showcase product detail.
- Implemented immersive storytelling sections to detail the “Faith Story” and the unique materials used in their instruments, fostering a deeper connection with the brand.
- Developed an intelligent product comparison tool, allowing users to effortlessly analyse body shapes, tonal characteristics, and performance features side-by-side.
- Delivered a custom dealer locator tool for non-transactional markets, where users can search for local Faith retailers.
Ensured a mobile-first design for seamless browsing and comparison on any device, from desktop to mobile.
SEO
To ensure a smooth transition and strong organic presence from day one, we undertook extensive digital marketing preparation.
- Conducted crucial digital marketing preparation work to ensure a smooth transition from legacy Joomla platform to Shopify for organic search rankings.
- Set up basic Google Analytics (GA4) tracking, Google Tag Manager (if required), Search Console, autogenerated meta tags, canonical tags, sitemap.xml, and robots.txt.
- Implemented essential redirects from the existing site to preserve SEO equity and minimise broken links, prioritising key pages based on indexation data.
Configured initial product feeds for Google Ads and basic setup for Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel and event tracking to kickstart paid media efforts
Data Migration & Integrations
A critical aspect was ensuring all existing product and customer data was accurately transferred, and new systems integrated seamlessly with Barnes & Mullins’ infrastructure for operational efficiency.
- Transferred all product data, including attributes, images, and category data, meticulously from the previous website to the new Shopify store.
- Set up integration with Mailchimp for mailing list subscribers and opt-in customers, streamlining email marketing efforts.
- Integrated a layered customer-review system to foster trust and community, providing options for both replicating existing B&M CRM functionality or leveraging a third-party platform for rich snippet data.
- Configured product registration functionality with direct integration to the B&M CRM system to transfer registration and review data.
- Established a robust Stock/Price Sync, integrating with Barnes & Mullins’ Sage accounting package via CSV export to control pricing and stock quantities in near real-time.
CRO
While not explicitly a separate service line for this project, several core elements within the build were strategically designed to enhance conversion pathways and user engagement, leveraging Shopify’s inherent capabilities.
- The strategic shift to Shopify, a platform inherently built to drive conversions, formed the foundational CRO improvement.
- The improved UX with a product comparison tool and mobile-first design directly addressed user friction points, leading to a smoother, more efficient purchasing journey.
- Social proof through integrated customer reviews was implemented to build trust and encourage purchases in transactional markets.
- Pre-order/in-stock alert functionality was specified and implemented to manage inventory expectations effectively and capture potential sales even when products are temporarily out of stock.

The Faith Guitars project established a foundational Shopify theme and codebase that will be leveraged for the efficient rollout of an additional six Barnes & Mullins brands, ensuring brand consistency and operational efficiency across the portfolio
