Google update: mobile-friendly

Mobile user experience has increasingly become an important factor when building a website for a business. The amount of online searches that are being carried out through mobile devices are increasing each year, with ComScore reporting mobile device users surpassed desktop users in 2014.

Through this trend Google have begun to develop ways to encourage a user friendly experience by choosing to favour mobile-friendly websites over non-mobile optimised websites. Starting from 21st April, Google will expand the use of ‘mobile friendliness’ as a ranking signal, allowing mobile users to find relevant and high quality search results using a structural algorithm.

So what does this mean for your business? If you’ve been holding out on updating your website, this could be the best time to do it.

Want to test see if your site is mobile friendly?

Google has provided a mobile friendly testing tool which allows you to see if your website meets Googles mobile friendly criteria. This includes readable font sizes, content sizes or links that are too close together.

Google offers some recommendations based on this test which gives you a great starting point that allows you to begin optimising your website.

If you want any more information about this or to see how we can mobile-optimise your website, do drop us an email [email protected] or just give us a tinkle on 01743 344911 :)

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Hope everyone’s OK out there. As a digital agency, we’re lucky that the virus hasn’t affected us too much. It’s possible there could be some delays here and there though, particularly if team members fall ill. We’ll keep you posted. All we ask is that you email rather than call if possible, as we have fewer people on the phones at the moment.

Stay safe, and see you soon :)
